Phelps Hall fire update - one student being treated for smoke inhalation

YPSILANTI --  *Updated at 3:30 a.m. to include report of one student being treated for smoke inhalation.

A fire at Phelps Hall on the Eastern Michigan University campus has led to the evacuation of the building. The fire is out. One student is reported as being treated for smoke inhalation. There are no other reports of injuries. The fire is believed to have started in the first floor lounge area of the building shortly before 1:20 a.m. The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time. EMU Housing staff is assisting with the relocation of students to other residence halls until the building reopens. The Ypsilanti Fire Department and the Eastern Michigan University Police Department remain on the scene. Further updates will be provided as warranted.
