Eastern Michigan University ranks as one of the country's top schools in awarding financial aid for international students

YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University ranked as one of the top public universities in the nation in awarding financial aid to international students in 2015, according to the Student Loan Report. The report analyzed financial aid data of 4,000 colleges, with EMU ranking No. 11 on the list of 150 schools. Eastern had the highest ranking of any public university in Michigan.

“Many students from outside of the country aspire to attend college in the United States, and many colleges benefit from accepting these foreign applicants,” said Drew Cloud, founder of the Student Loan Report. “Having more foreign students is a feature that many colleges would boast about. It is an attractive quality to many, especially to prospective international students. Eastern Michigan University is not only giving international students financial aid, but helping them become debt free quicker out of college.”

The Student Loan Report is a comprehensive website that provides information to the general public regarding student loan news and college ranking information.

Cloud said the report defined financial aid as need-based and non-need-based aid from colleges, private third-party organizations, state governments, or the federal government.

"Based on the information we collected, Eastern Michigan University ranked eleventh on the report with $19,111 in financial aid awarded to international students on average," Cloud said. "The average debt per student borrower in the United States is $27,857. Financial aid is one way to help students relieve themselves of a lot of this debt. Eastern Michigan University is not only giving international students financial aid, but helping them become debt free quicker out of college."

The Student Loan Report also relied on Peterson’s Undergraduate Financial Aid Database for their findings. Peterson’s Undergraduate Financial Aid Database is a comprehensive source of information about college-administered financial aid sources for undergraduate students.
