Memorial information for EMU Professor Terry Heck Seibert

YPSILANTI --  The Eastern Michigan University and Michigan theatre communities are mourning the death of Professor Terry Heck Seibert, noted actor and co-director of Theatre at Eastern. Professor Heck Seibert died after being hit by a car Friday afternoon while walking her dog.

Professor Heck Seibert was an Ypsilanti native and an Eastern Michigan alumna. As a professional actor, she performed off-Broadway and at numerous regional theatres, including many in Southeast Michigan.

Her husband, John Seibert, is an EMU Lecturer in the School of Communication, Media & Theatre Arts. She also is survived by her son, Joe, who also is an actor. Professor Heck Seibert is the daughter of Ann Kettles, emeritus director of records, registration and advising who is married to U.S. Medal of Honor awardee Lt. Col. Charles Kettles.

Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Kathleen Stacey, said, "Terry was the heart of EMU theatre. Her passion and energy were intense - her laughter was distinctive and infectious. She loved our theatre students. She was their tiger mom who motivated them to succeed as performers and students."

An article about Professor Heck Seibert and her work, along with comments from associates and former students, can be found on the Encore Michigan website.

A memorial page has been established on Facebook for those who would like to offer thoughts and comments. In addition, a memorial wall can be found in the Quirk Theatre building directly across from Sponberg Theatre.

EMU students who would like to speak with a counselor from Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) should call the CAPS office at 734-487-1118 and an appointment will be scheduled.

The family is having a private service on Saturday, April 21. A public memorial is being planned for June - details will be announced once finalized. A scholarship has been established her name to support students. People can donate online or by mail with a check with "Terry Heck Seibert Scholarship" in the memo line to:
