Students must also complete a culminating element such as a thesis, research paper, or scholarly project prior to graduating from the program. EMU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission to award this graduate credential in philosophy.

To develop the ranking of the top 50 master’s in philosophy degree programs, the Great Value College editors searched College Navigator for colleges and universities awarding a Master of Arts in Philosophy or a Master of Science in Philosophy for less than $30,000 per year in tuition. This initial search yielded 67 results. To further narrow the pool and rank the remaining programs, they applied a rating and ranking methodology, including tuition cost, student to faculty ratio, accreditation, and other factors.
