Eastern Michigan University GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology to host TechTalk featuring EMU alumna Kiana Wenzell, Co-Executive Director, Design Core Detroit

YPSILANTI — Eastern Michigan University's GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology will host a TechTalk featuring Kiana Wenzell, co-executive director of Design Core Detroit, at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, located at 124 Sill Hall or via Zoom.

EMU TechTalk is a series that offers students and faculty opportunities to network with renowned experts and up-and-coming leaders in the engineering and technology fields. Each TechTalk provides extensive networking opportunities and a chance to explore careers, internships and research opportunities at the College. 

“By collaborating with leaders such as Kiana Wenzell, our students can learn valuable and applicable information in their perspective fields,” said Mohamad Qatu, dean of GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology. “We are happy to welcome back a fellow EMU alumna to campus as she brings her experience and knowledge.“

Since launching EMU TechTalk, students and faculty have heard from industry leaders, including Matt Wagner, manager of Renewable Energy Development at DTE Energy, Raffaele Mautone, founder and CEO of AaDya Security; Michael Gzybowski, senior counsel at Dykema, and Chuck Gray, vice president, Vehicle Hardware Engineering, Ford Model e. 

Wenzell will present an overview of Design Core Detroit, their daily operations, and the new Detroit City of Design Challenge launching this year. Design Core serves design-driven industries specializing in design or utilizing design as a central discipline of their business strategy. 

As a co-executive director, Wenzell has 19 years of experience researching, planning, and executing design projects in metropolitan Detroit. Wenzell has an undergraduate degree in interior design from EMU in 2004 and a graduate degree in technical writing and professional communication from Lawrence Technological University.

About Kiana Wenzell
Kiana Wenzell has 19 years of experience researching, planning and executing design projects in metropolitan Detroit. In her current role, Wenzell is co-executive director of Design Core Detroit, a non-profit economic development organization housed within the College for Creative Studies. 

She also serves as Director of Detroit Month of Design, Drinks x Design and manages other key Design Core public programming. Kiana has an undergraduate degree in interior design from Eastern Michigan University and a graduate degree in technical writing and professional communication from Lawrence Technological University. She was born and raised in Detroit.
