EMU looks to break fundraising record during #GivingTuesday

YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University hopes to receive more than 450 donor contributions that will impact its students during this year’s #GivingTuesday fundraising campaign.

#GivingTuesday – a nationally recognized single-day movement dedicated to charitable giving, will take place Dec. 1 and will serve as the official kickoff to the giving season.

"On the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is a great way to focus on what really matters during the holiday season - giving back,” said Vince Cavataio, director of the annual giving program at the EMU Foundation.

#GivingTuesday donors can designate where they wish their gift to go to on campus, such as MAGIC - a program to increase graduation rates among students who have experienced foster care or homelessness, or donate to Swoop's Food Pantry - an on-campus food pantry that helps students in need, or the general EMU Fund

Supporters using social media will be encouraged to use the hashtags #GivingTuesday and #Give2EMU during the campaign to show their support and pledge participation. People can also view the EMU Facebook and Twitter feeds and share #GivingTuesday posts by using the same hastags.

During #GivingTuesday, EMU students will participate by giving the gift of their time by writing thank you notes to donors. They will also sign their names to a thank you banner. The event for students will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the hallway across from the EMU Bookstore in the Student Center.

“Gifts of all sizes from our alumni and friends are what make our University a place of opportunity, and we hope to celebrate the hundreds of donors who join us this Tuesday and educate our alumni of tomorrow," said Cavataio.

If you would like to make a gift, please visit the EMU Foundation homepage or call 484-1322. For more information on the National Day of Giving, please visit givingtuesday.org.
