EMU administrator Chiara Hensley selected for senior-level leadership shadow program

Chiara Hensley, assistant VP for academic and student affairs at Eastern Michigan University, has been chosen to participate in a senior level leadership shadow program that helps develop top female education leaders in Michigan.

Hensley is one of five women selected for the program, which is run through the Michigan ACE Women’s Network. She will shadow Provost Keith Whitfield of Wayne State University.

The program, now in its second year, allows mid-level female administrators aspiring toward senior-level university positions to learn from mentors, gain diverse institutional perspectives and develop knowledge and skills.

The program seeks to create a distinct and highly instructive experience for selected women in higher education in Michigan. The personalized nature allows learning to take place through both observation and applied learning.

Hensley says she expects the experience to broaden her understanding about various facets of University administration, such as housing and financing of various areas, with the goal of becoming a vice president of student affairs.

Prior to her current position, Hensley served as University Ombuds at EMU. Her previous work includes service at Pasadena City College in the counseling and student learning services area, holding a tenured position as assistant professor of counseling.

She received her doctorate in higher education leadership and administration from Nova Southeastern University, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. She earned a master’s in counseling from EMU and a bachelor’s in education from the University of Michigan.
