Nursing students to benefit from Eastern Michigan University articulation agreement with Henry Ford College
Agreement facilitates transfer of nursing students from HFC to Eastern
YPSILANTI – Students who have earned an associate nursing degree at Henry Ford College can transfer their credits to Eastern Michigan University under an agreement announced Wednesday, Oct. 31, at HFC in Dearborn.
The joint effort between Eastern’s College of Health and Human Services’ School of Nursing and HFC’s School of Health and Human Services is effective from Sept. 1, 2018 to Aug. 31, 2021.
"Eastern Michigan University is pleased to be the leader among Michigan universities in the number of transfer agreements we have with community colleges,” EMU President James Smith said. “We are thrilled to partner with Henry Ford College's nursing program and bring opportunities to nursing students for a smooth transition to receive a full degree.
“This program, similar to all of our community college agreements, provides students with the cost advantages of earning credits at Henry Ford College for their first two years before transferring and completing their degree at Eastern."
Eastern Michigan currently has 149 agreements with 24 schools, including 10 reverse transfer agreements, which is when if a student has enough credits, he/she can retroactively transfer them back to a community college and get an associate degree while working towards the undergraduate degree.The University has agreements with schools in Michigan, Ohio, Iowa and Missouri.
“We’re very excited about this agreement between HFC and EMU,” said HFC President Russell Kavalhuna. “It’s a logical progression to have students wishing to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing to transfer to EMU. This articulation agreement will make transferring from HFC to EMU seamless. I’m proud of the efforts made by everyone at both schools to make this happen.”
