YPSILANTI --  Eastern Michigan University efforts to expand it global footprint continued this week as the University hosted a noted official from King Abdulaziz University (KAU) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. President James Smith, Provost and Exeuctive Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Rhonda Longworth, and Mohamad Qatu, dean of the College of Engineering and Technology, met with Dr. Mohamad Fatani, presidents' consular and supervisor general - international cooperation at KAU.

As a result of meetings during the trip of President Smith and Dean Qatu to Saudi Arabia last November regarding potential collaborations, Eastern submitted a grant proposal to KAU to launch a summer training program for several students from KAU over three years, beginning in the summer of 2021. The proposal is currently under consideration by KAU senior administration.

Other possible collaborations include joint programs, faculty and student opportunies. Dr. Fatani toured the the Eastern Michigan campus and Sill Hall and expressed that he was impressed with the accommodations the University offers, and the University's advancement in engineering and technology programs. Of particular note to Dr. Fatani is Eastern's work in virtual reality, cybersecurity, 3D printing, industrial robotics and drone technology.
