With extra precautions to ensure the safety of attendees, the annual Bike Rodeo will look different this year from past events like the one pictured here.

YPSILANTI – On Saturday, August 1, the Eastern Michigan University Police Department, along with Gene Butman Ford, will host its free and open to the annual public bike safety Bike Rodeo event. The Bike Rodeo will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Gene Butman Ford, located at 2105 Washtenaw Avenue in Ypsilanti.

“The annual Bike Rodeo serves to bring information and resources to the community about safe biking,” said Sergeant Joseph Torres of the EMU Police Department. “This year’s event will be a little different as we take extra precautions to ensure the health and safety of all our attendees, but we felt it was still important to offer the community this resource for ensuring bike safety, particularly as so many families are doing extra bike riding lately.”

The event will include free bike safety checks (mechanical check and helmet fitting information), free giveaways and SWAG, free food and drinks, a fun obstacle course to ride on, and more.

Eastern Michigan police officers will also be on-site to give safety talks and discuss the rules of the road. Social distancing will be in effect, and masks and sanitizer will be provided for attendees.
