Relocation of College of Business to main campus tops Eastern Michigan University FY22 capital budget plans

Spending plan includes $1.5 million in improvements to Boone Hall to support move of the College of Business to central campus

YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University plans a variety of improvements to academic facilities along with enhancements to campus and classroom technology in a capital budget of $5.1 million for fiscal year 2021-2022.

The projects include investments supporting the initial phasing of the renovation of Boone Hall to accommodate the relocation of the College of Business to main campus, and necessary infrastructure improvements in academic, administrative, and auxiliary facilities, information technology, safety and asset preservation.

The EMU Board of Regents approved the FY22 capital budget at its regular meeting Thursday, Dec. 10.

Elements of the FY22 capital budget include:

Academic facility enhancements ($1.75 million): Includes $1.5 million for renovation of Boone Hall to help accommodate the move of the College of Business to the main campus, and $250,000 for infrastructure improvements to King Hall.

Housing, student programming ($120,000): Includes electrical infrastructure improvements to the Rec/IM Building, which is now open during completion of a $16 million overall renovation.

Technology ($1.35 million): Includes $256,000 for classroom technology, $1 million for computer network/server upgrades and $100,000 for campus Wi-Fi.

Safety and security ($300,000): Includes further upgrades to campus cameras and lighting.

ADA/SAW grant compliance and obligations ($450,000): Includes landscaping and building elements.

Other campus capital investment ($1.15 million): Includes $250,000 for Starkweather Hall systems infrastructure improvements, $200,000 for west campus electrical infrastructure improvements, $200,000 for decommissioning of the Owen Building, home of the College of Business, and $500,000 in contingency funds.
