YPSILANTI – Entertainment and art will fill the streets of downtown Ypsilanti on Friday, Oct. 28 from 7-10 p.m. when Engage@EMU and The Eastern Michigan University Bright Futures network of afterschool programs partner with uniteSTEM for ypsiGLOW. The event is free and open to all ages.

Known as ypsiGLOW, the program is a celebration showcasing Ypsilanti's creativity and diversity with light-filled luminary processions, costumes, public art installations, street art performances, music, dancing, and more. This year's theme is “Where the Wild Things GLOW.”

“We are excited to celebrate another collaboration with ypsiGLOW,” said Will Spotts, assistant director of EMU Bright Futures. “This celebration is a wonderful demonstration of how combining efforts and innovations amplifies the type of event that Ypsilanti deserves. Now with the resources and accompanying incredible knowledge  of uniteSTEM at our disposal, the realm of possibilities keeps growing.”

YpsiGLOW will feature a tent stage line-up including:

  • Ypsilanti Community High School Choir at 7:15 p.m.

  • Boylesque's ypsiGLOW Drag Show at 7:45 p.m.

  • DJ Nitro ypsiGLOW dance party at 8:30 p.m

“I think this is a good way to show how Eastern and Engage@EMU are involved in our local community and national movements,” said Tyler Calhoun, communications and operations coordinator at Engage@EMU. “We are excited for another opportunity to shine a light on a cool local event like ypsiGLOW and the sneak peek of the luminary projects during National Lights on Day, which happened on October 20.”

The event is open to all ages and free for everyone. For more information, visit the ypsiGLOW website.
