YPSILANTI— Eastern Michigan University Professional Programs and Training (PPAT) and the United States Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) continues their more than 25-year-old partnership by signing a five-year renewal contract for EMU to be an OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Center.

"Our team is excited to launch this next chapter with the OTI Education Center Program," said Beth Stoner, director of Business Engagement and Non-Credit Initiatives and director of the Great Lakes OSHA Education Center at EMU. "We have a solid team of seasoned instructors who consistently get high evaluation scores for their expertise and training facilitation. Our program management, teaching assistant, and customer support team consistently look for ways to add value and provide a high-quality learning experience for our class participants and certificate program members."

The partnership offers 50 different OTI Education center training courses, compliance-based courses, and safety certificate programs. These courses are offered in-person and virtually for the EMU community and citizens of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

“In addition to the OTI numbered courses offered through the Great Lakes OTIEC, EMU also offers online, self-paced safety training and OSHA and Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance training,” Stoner said. “Our instructors are industry experts that bring real-world examples into their classes. In-person, virtual and on-site or contract delivery formats allow individual participants and organizations to select the training modality that best meets their needs.”

Some of the numbered OSHA courses available this spring include OSHA #7405 Fall Hazard Awareness for the Construction Industry, OSHA #2255 Principles of Ergonomics, and OSHA #511 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry, amongst others.

According to Stoner, “In addition to certificates of completion, PPAT provides digital credentials for our OSHA numbered classes as an added value. Digital credentials help participants showcase specific skills, competencies or experiences attained through the completion of professional courses and certificates and communicate these to potential employers and those in their professional network.”

PPAT, housed within Engage@EMU, also offers programs in fields such as education, social work, quality and continuous improvement, polymers and coatings, and technology that provide professional development, test prep and certificate programs to help students gain skills and credentials needed to excel in their career.
