Eastern Michigan University welcomes two new members to Board of Regents

YPSILANTI --  As a result of two new appointments by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, the Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents has its full complement of members.

Anupam Chugh Sidhu, of Canton, was appointed on March 23. She is currently the Secretary for Plymouth-Canton Community School Board of Education, and also serves on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Association of School Boards. Previously, Sidhu was the Region 20 Director for the Regional Educational Media Center Association of Michigan, the Instructional Technology Manager for Wayne RESA, and a math teacher. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Secondary Teaching Certificate from Eastern Michigan University and her Master of Education in Instructional Technology from Wayne State University. Sidhu was appointed for a term commencing March 23, 2023 and expiring December 31, 2030. She succeeded Michelle Crumm whose term has expired.

Marques Thomey, of Plymouth, was appointed on Feb. 2, 2023. He is the director of business development and real estate at Wayne County Airport Authority. He previously served as a City of Plymouth commissioner from 2018 to 2021 and served on the Eastern Michigan University Alumni Association Board of Directors from 2011 to 2017 – including a term as president. Thomey received a Bachelor of Science in aviation management technology from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Science in leadership from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He was appointed for a term commencing February 2, 2023, and expiring December 31, 2030. He succeeded Dennis Beagen whose term has expired. 

The appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

Board of Regents Chair Eunice Jeffries said, “My colleagues and I welcome Anupam Chugh Sidhu and Marques Thomey to the board. As alumni of Eastern, they have a solid understanding and first-hand experience of the University’s distinct mission as an institution of opportunity. They will complement the collaborative efforts of the Board in our ongoing pursuit of excellent outcomes for Eastern’s students and strong support for the faculty and staff.”
