YPSILANTI — Modern apartment-style living arrangements, spacious rooms, and stunning views are just a few characteristics of Lakeview Apartments – Eastern Michigan University’s newest living space set to open in August. On Wednesday, July 31 at 10 a.m., Eastern is hosting a “Lakeview Reveal” to provide a first-hand look at the finished apartments, which overlook the University’s Student Center and ponds. Lakeview offers 400 beds in a mix of studio, 2-bedroom, and 4-bedroom apartments.
Adding Lakeview Apartments is a significant milestone in EMU's Welcome Home: Campus Living Redefined plan, a $200 million initiative launched in 2022. The project represents the most significant transformation of the Eastern Michigan University campus in decades.
“With this year marking Eastern’s 175th anniversary, we’re eagerly anticipating welcoming students back to a campus transformation featuring contemporary living and learning spaces,” said James Smith, president of Eastern Michigan University. “The new spaces will continue our efforts to support student success at every level during their time at Eastern.”
In addition to the opening of Lakeview, Westview Apartments will also be ready for fall occupancy, offering 300 beds in studio, two-bedroom, and four-bedroom apartments. Additionally, renovations to the remaining residence halls on campus are being completed this summer. This includes Sellers and Phelps halls – renovations at Downing, Putnam and Walton residence halls were completed in 2023. The upgrades include adding new air conditioning to every room and enhanced WiFi.

Additional projects set for completion this fall include a state-of-the-art digital arts complex and a newly renovated library.
