YPSILANTI —To encourage students, faculty, and staff to support local businesses, Eastern Michigan University is again partnering with the third annual “Explore Ypsi” gift card program from now through the semester's end.
In partnership with Engage @ EMU, GameAbove, and the Ypsilanti Downtown Development Authority, 2,000 $10 gift cards will be available to EMU students, faculty, and staff. Participants can receive one gift card per EMU email from Boone Hall, room 203, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“The program doesn’t just support students and staff,” said Sam Carter, communications and operations manager for Engage @ EMU. “It supports our whole community. When I used my gift card as a student, I got the opportunity to uncover Ypsilanti in a way that I would not have been able to without the extra money.”
“Explore Ypsi” gift cards can be used at 25 local businesses, including dining, hair care, and hardware stores. This year, the Ypsilanti Farmers Market will join the roster, giving participants access to fresh, locally grown food.
Beyond distribution in Boone Hall, gift cards will be available at various on-campus events throughout the semester. Swoop’s Pantry will also carry a limited amount of gift cards to give away to shoppers.
Looking forward, Carter hopes the initiative allows people to experience Ypsilanti in new and exciting ways. “Once you’ve been around Ypsi once, Ypsi calls you back. You’ll have so many places you’ll want to go back to.”
