YPSILANTI — Eastern Michigan University will host its 2024 Student Employment Fair, designed for both new and returning students seeking part-time job opportunities on and off campus. The fair will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Student Center Ballroom, 900 Oakwood St. in Ypsilanti.

This free event provides EMU students with the opportunity to connect with over 75 employers from a variety of sectors, including restaurants, retailers, hotels, healthcare facilities, daycare centers, and local businesses. Additionally, various EMU campus departments will be represented, offering a wide range of positions to fit students' schedules and career aspirations. Notable participants include the Federal Bureau of Investigation (Detroit office), the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, Ozone House, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan.

"We understand how important it is for our students to find flexible employment that complements their academic commitments," said John Carlson, senior corporation relations manager of University Advising and Career Development Center at EMU. "This fair is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore a variety of part-time roles, network with potential employers, and take a significant step towards their career goals."

Students are encouraged to register for the fair through Handshake, EMU's career platform. To register, students should log in to the EMU Handshake portal with their EMU credentials, navigate to the "Events" section, and search for "2024 EMU Student Employment Fair." Once they find the event listing, they can click "Register" to confirm their attendance. After registering, students will receive an email with important event details and updates.

Preparation:
Students are advised to prepare the following for the event:

  1. A copy of their class schedule to discuss availability with recruiters.
  2. A copy of their financial aid award letter, particularly if they are eligible for College Work Study.
  3. Multiple copies of their resume to share with potential employers.
  4. A notebook and two pens for note-taking.

While the fair maintains a casual atmosphere, students should dress professionally to make a positive impression on employers.
