YPSILANTI —Eastern Michigan University is proud to announce that AnnaBelle Favre, a resident of Port Huron, Michigan, has been named a Presidential Scholar for 2024. Favre is one of only 21 exemplary students selected for this honor, awarded to top-performing first-year students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a strong commitment to their communities.
“I am so grateful to have received the Presidential Scholarship at EMU,” said Favre. “I have been working several jobs and saving up money for college since I turned 16, and with this scholarship, I am able to keep saving and go to graduate school in the future.”
The EMU Presidential Scholarship is the most prestigious award, valued at up to $100K. The scholarship covers full tuition, fees, and room and board for four years. Presidential Scholars are active and engaged members of The Honors College at EMU, complementing their academic experience with further opportunities for critical thinking, community engagement, and leadership. The scholarship opportunity is aligned with EMU’s commitment to helping students achieve their educational goals while positively impacting the world.
Favre graduated from Blue Water Middle College Academy while earning her associate’s degree from St. Clair County Community College. In high school, Favre was a member of the National Honor Society, choir, French club, art club, ceramics club, book club, student council, the Prevention, Access, Self-Empowerment and Support mentor program, and her superintendent advisory committee. Favre additionally assisted her school's track team and local civic theater. At EMU, she plans to pursue a degree in elementary education.
“We are excited to have such an impressive group of scholars join us at EMU this fall,” said Ann Eisenberg, dean of the Honors College. “They come from different backgrounds, cultures, and countries, but they all share a passion for learning, service, and leadership. They are an impressive bunch as well, with a mean SAT score of 1320 and an average high school GPA of 4.02.”
Looking forward, Favre hopes to keep her family in mind as she pursues her degree. “My parents and grandparents have seen me grow into the person I am today. I still remember my grandma reading me stories as we waited for the school bus in the mornings, and now I get to be the one reading to kids.”
