YPSILANTI — Eastern Michigan University celebrated the dedication of its newly renovated Bruce T. Halle Library on Thursday, October 17, honoring the generous support of The Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation. The event attracted more than 100 guests, in addition to remarks from EMU Regent Nathan Ford, EMU President James Smith, EMU Provost Rhonda Longworth, and Jill Hunsberger from the EMU Foundation.
Thanks to a significant gift from The Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation, the first floor of the Halle Library, just over 27,000 square feet, underwent extensive upgrades and modernization. The renovation aimed to create collaborative spaces for the campus community, enhancing opportunities for instruction and interaction. Notable improvements include flexible study areas, technology-rich classrooms, and a café to promote student engagement.
“The Halle Library has served as a vanguard, state-of-the-art learning facility at Eastern Michigan University for almost 25 years,” said President James Smith. “With the investment from The Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation, we are taking the first step in a master plan to restore the library to its original vision. We aim to stay at the forefront of educational change, enhancing student learning and creating a true community resource.”
The event featured a reception and tours of the renovated spaces, highlighting the library's new design, which emphasizes collaboration and integrated student academic support services critical to student success and retention.
As EMU progresses, the Halle Library reflects the University's dedication to creating an inclusive and innovative learning environment. This renewed space will support academic success and serve as a gathering spot for the entire campus community.
