YPSILANTI — Eastern Michigan University is proud to announce that Amari Rosenburg, resident of Interlochen, Michigan, has been named a Presidential Scholar for 2024. Rosenburg is one of 21 exceptional students selected for this prestigious honor, awarded to top-performing first-year students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a strong commitment to their communities.
The EMU Presidential Scholarship is the most prestigious award, valued at up to $100K. The scholarship covers full tuition, fees, and four-year room and board. Presidential Scholars are active and engaged members of The Honors College at EMU, complementing their academic college experience with further opportunities for critical thinking, community engagement, and leadership.
Rosenberg hopes to study abroad in New Zealand during her sophomore year at EMU. “Receiving this scholarship means an enormous amount to me," said Rosenburg. "I can start the process of becoming a physical therapist, and get the chance to study abroad because of this financial support."
Rosenburg graduated from Traverse City West Senior High School and is pursuing degrees in biology and mathematics. After EMU, she plans to attend school for physical therapy, specializing in helping those with disabilities. In high school, Rosenberg was involved in the National Honors Society, the National Society of High School Scholars, the Quiz Bowl, the Academic World Quest, Traverse City Tritons Rowing Team, School Board Student Advisory Council, and she was a big sister for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization.
Rosenberg took part in a two-and-a-half-week global service trip where she traveled to Guanajuato, Mexico. While there, Rosenburg took a grammar and a culture class, both fully immersed in Spanish. The travel group also volunteered at an orphanage in Guanajuato, where they brought crafts and games to play with the girls there.
Throughout Rosenburg's time at the orphanage, she developed a relationship with a little girl there. "I was working at a friendship bracelet craft station but had never made one before and it clearly showed," said Rosenburg. "A little girl took me under her wing, and we spent over two hours there, making crafts and helping each other. It didn't matter who we were or what language we spoke, we all made friendships there."
"We are excited to have such an impressive group of scholars join us at EMU and the Honors College this fall,” said Ann Eisenberg, dean of the Honors College. “They come from different backgrounds, cultures, and countries, but they all share a passion for learning, service, and leadership, and they have all pledged to give back to EMU through their work in the classroom, student organizations, and campus offices.”
The EMU Presidential Scholarship is aligned with the University's commitment to promoting student success and engagement so students can achieve their academic goals while positively impacting the world.
Qualified students can apply for the Presidential Scholarship during their senior year of high school. For more information about the Presidential Scholarship, visit the webpage.
