Eastern Michigan University’s online programs in education ranked among best in nation by U.S. News & World Report

YPSILANTI — In a display of Eastern Michigan University’s commitment to academic quality, EMU earned “Best” status for its high-performing online programs in the U.S. News & World Report rankings for 2025. Notably, EMU secured the No. 35 spot for best online veteran graduate education, while graduate education climbed nine places to No.120.

“We’re incredibly proud to be recognized by the U.S. News & World Report for our programs,” said Ryan Gildersleeve, dean of the College of Education. “These rankings reflect our commitment to providing high-quality, accessible education for all learners, especially those who have served our country. At EMU, we strive to create a supportive environment where students can thrive academically, no matter where they are in their educational journey.”

Rankings are determined by incorporating survey data from more than 1,700 universities covering factors such as faculty credentials and training, services and technology available to students, student engagement, and expert opinions on the academic quality of programs. Master's degree programs are also ranked based on assessment of student excellence via undergraduate GPAs, acceptance rates and work experience.

EMU’s Veteran Services program is a standout feature of its online offerings. It provides personalized support to veteran graduate students. Services include access to student coaches who connect learners with advisors and campus resources, as well as assistance from Veterans Affairs representatives who help them navigate the healthcare system and other benefits. This robust support system ensures that veteran students thrive academically and personally.

EMU’s College of Education is a training ground for individuals passionate about making a difference in their careers and communities. It offers a range of highly regarded graduate programs that prepare students to start or advance careers as teachers, PK-12 and university leaders, counseling mental health professionals, student affairs professionals, and speech-language pathologists.

In addition to the College of Education’s achievements, EMU offers students a flexible path. It offers over 40 fully online undergraduate and graduate programs in business, education, healthcare, and technology. Students in fully online programs for both graduate and undergraduate degrees pay in-state tuition and fees regardless of where they live.

The U.S. News rankings follow EMU’s previous recognitions from Newsweek and Online Masters Colleges for outstanding online degree programs, alongside Military Times Best for Vets recognition of EMU as Michigan’s most military-friendly university in 2024.
