YPSILANTI — Eastern Michigan University’s Financial Management Association (FMA) chapter demonstrated its excellence in finance and investment strategy at the 2025 Finance Leaders’ Conference, securing multiple top placements in national competitions.
“These accomplishments highlight the dedication, expertise, and hard work of our finance students,” said Karen Craig, faculty advisor of FMA-EMU. “Competing at this level allows students to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world scenarios, preparing them for successful careers in finance.”
EMU’s team including Joseph Skinner, Jaida Turner, and Jonathan Wild, took first place in the Investment Challenge, impressing a panel of industry experts with their firm valuation analysis and strategic insights. Another EMU team, comprised of Aidan Panter, Najeebah Abdus Salaam, Cole Raggett, and Gabriel Geha, placed third in the same competition, further showcasing the strength of the university’s finance program.
In addition to success in the Investment Challenge, the team of Eric Foor, Moemi Mori, Zach Robinson, and Anyah Johnson earned second place in the investment analysis poster competition, receiving recognition for their thorough research and presentation skills.
Access to Bloomberg terminals, made possible by a donation from EMU supporter Stephen Klotz, played a significant role in the students’ success. These tools allowed them to conduct in-depth market analysis, strengthen their financial modeling skills, and enhance their investment strategies.
Beyond the competition, students had the opportunity to engage with financial professionals through exclusive site visits. Thanks to the support of EMU alumnus Michael Pugh, chief executive officer of LISC, students visited the organization to meet with its staff and learn about how LISC supports community development. Students also toured and engaged with financial professionals at Goldman Sachs, the New York Stock Exchange, UBS, the United Nations, and Shenkman Capital, expanding their understanding of global finance.
The Finance Leaders’ Conference, hosted by the Financial Management Association International, brings together students, faculty, and industry leaders to engage in professional development, networking, and hands-on learning experiences. EMU’s continued success at this event reflects the university’s commitment to academic excellence and preparing students for leadership roles in finance.
