YPSILANTI --  TRUEMU Night at Comerica Park on Tuesday night (July 25) drew more than 500 alumni, students, employees and supporters for a great night of baseball and Eastern Michigan University pride. While the Tigers made a strong comeback to tie the game in the 9th inning, the team ended up losing in the 10th by a final score of 7-6.

That didn't put a damper on the festivities, however. In a pregame ceremony, Student Body Vice President Ameera Salman, University President James Smith, EMU Foundation Director of Development for International Relations Connie Ruhl-Smith, Regent Alex Simpson, and Vice President for Communications and Interim Vice President for Advancement and Director of the EMU Foundation Walter Kraft accepted a check for more than $2,600 for the EMU Student Emergency Fund. The funds are the result of the Tigers donation of $5 from every ticket purchased through its collaboration with Eastern.

In addition, attendees received a limited edition bobblehead featuring Tigers mascot Paws wearing an EMU jersey.

A key highlight of the opening ceremony was national anthem singer Faith Moore (performance name Jona'e), an EMU senior majoring in music therapy.

In addition, John Bodary, president of Woods Construction and proud graduate and supporter of the EMU Construction Management program, threw the first pitch.

A pregame event hosted by the EMU Office of Alumni and Donor Engagement got the night started with free beverages and snacks in the Blue Moon Brewhouse inside the stadium.

"It was so wonderful to see the great turnout of Eastern alumni, students, employees and supporters," said Kraft. "It was a beautiful night under the lights and the Tigers couldn't have been more accommodating in making sure it was a special EMU-focused evening. We're already starting to plan for next year, and in the meantime, plans are in the works for TRUEMU nights at the Pistons and Red Wings next winter. Stay tuned!"
