Eastern Michigan University launches new technology to make transferring from a community college easier

YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University is making the transfer process smoother for students with a new system known as Transferology that will answer their college transfer credit questions and save students time and money.

According to data from the National Student Clearinghouse, of the nearly 1 million students who started at a community college in 2016, only one in seven earned a bachelor’s degree within six years. Experts attribute this trend to many factors, including credit loss–when students take classes that don’t contribute to their degree.

“Getting acclimated to a new environment can be daunting,” said Eastern Michigan University Registrar Christina Shell. “We want transfer students to start their journey with courses that get them closer to graduation – that’s where Transferolgy comes in. We aim to provide a transfer-friendly environment with applicable academic information so students can spend more time immersing themselves in EMU life.”

Transferology allows students to determine equivalencies for courses they have taken at other institutions and then determines how those equivalencies will apply to graduation requirements.  These determinations can be made before admission to Eastern.

“The system allows students to view how their coursework will transfer to EMU and how it will satisfy degree requirements,” Shell added.

“We strive to enhance the educational experience by providing our students with the best information systems,” said Shell. “EMU constantly adds to the listing of course equivalencies so students can determine how their credits will transfer.”
