EMU construction management students get first-hand look at new Lakeview Apartments on Eastern’s campus

A group of students wearing safety vests and hardhats are given a tour of the Lakeview Apts. construction site.

YPSILANTI —  Eastern Michigan University construction management students are among the first students to get an inside look at the new Lakeview Apartments housing project on the University’s campus. The new apartment building is set to open next fall for the start of the 2024 academic year.

Students from the Construction Safety class (CNST213) taught by Adam Bogedain toured the new building on Oct. 10 with representatives of the construction team. They learned the details about constructing a four-story building of this nature, which will house approximately 400 students in when completed. Residential options include four-bedroom, two-bedroom, and studio apartments. All units come complete with kitchens, bathrooms, and air conditioning.

The Lakeview Apartments are located next to the University’s Student Center and overlook two large ponds, providing some of the most scenic views on campus. The building will feature student lounges, gathering spaces, flex rooms that can host classes and meetings, and rooms tailored for podcasting and other creative uses.

Bogedain has been an instructor in the construction management program at Eastern since 2014. In describing the tour he said, “The students witnessed various activities and construction stages to put real-world boots-on-the-ground visualization into their studies. When students reflected on the site tour, it was clear everyone enjoyed the experience and found the information they learned helpful.”

Lakeview is one element of the overall Welcome Home housing project that includes the construction of another new apartment-style building that will also open next fall, Westview Apartments. Additionally, the project includes the modernization and renovation of most other residence halls on campus with enhanced WiFi and air conditioning throughout. Visit the Welcome Home website to learn complete details, including EMU students’ role in designing the new and renovated facilities, including selecting colors, furniture options, and more.
