YPSILANTI – In a time of critical need, Kroger, alongside Eastern Michigan University’s Swoop's Pantry and EMU Athletics, continues to spearhead efforts to alleviate food insecurity among students. Due to the success of this joint effort, Eastern recognized Kroger at a recent basketball game for the company’s recent contributions to Swoop’s Pantry, amounting to $20,000. Cumulatively, Kroger had extended support exceeding $90,000 to the pantry through various grants.

This partnership has responded to a pressing need, evident in the intake of over 1,000 student forms this year alone and an average of 90 daily student visits to Swoop's Pantry, illustrating the stark and increased demand among our student community.

“We firmly believe that it takes a collective effort to combat food insecurity effectively, and our alliance with Swoops Food Pantry and EMU Athletics exemplifies the strength that arises when organizations come together for a common cause,” said Cam Barrett, corporate affairs manager for Kroger Michigan Division stated. “Together, we aspire to create a positive and lasting impact on the lives of EMU students, ensuring that they have the necessary support to thrive academically and personally. This (recent) donation is not just a financial contribution but a symbol of our shared commitment to fostering a community where no student has to face food insecurity alone.

Having maintained a longstanding partnership with Swoop's Pantry, Kroger's dedication to addressing food insecurity issues has been unwavering. In early November, as part of their 'Zero Hunger Zero Waste' campaign, Kroger provided a generous $10K grant. A check presentation occurred at the recent basketball game, marking Kroger's total contributions reaching $20,000. Cumulatively, Kroger had extended support exceeding $90,000 to Swoop's Pantry through various grants.

Expressing gratitude for the relentless commitment and support, EMU Foundation Development Director Christa Reid, and Swoop’s Executive Board member said, "We deeply appreciate Kroger and their steadfast commitment to eradicating food insecurity on our campus.
