Expertise: School nutrition programs, Foods
Dr. Rainville's research is focused on school nutrition programs and much of it is applied research. Since 1994, she has secured more than $500,000 in external contracts and grants to fund a variety of research projects. The school nutrition research topics include nutrients and foods in school lunches compared to lunches from home, effectiveness of classroom breakfast, recess before lunch, nutrition information at the point of selection in high schools, and the after-school snack program. The applied research outcomes have changed the way that schools serve breakfast and schedule recess. Alice Jo is affiliated with the EMU Center for Health Disparities Innovations and Studies and is co-leading nutrition initiatives for the CDC-funded Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health. In 2016 she was awarded the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Excellence in Practice Award for Research.
