John Gilbert McCurdy has expertise in colonial and Revolutionary America as well as gender and sexuality. McCurdy is the author of several books and articles, including Quarters: The Accommodation of the British Army and the Coming of the American Revolution (Cornell, 2019), which was named 2019 Book of the Year by the Journal of the American Revolution

McCurdy also has been published  in The New York Times, spoken at the Ann Arbor Public LIbrary, and written numerous blogposts. He has held fellowships from the Massachusetts Historical Society, American Antiquarian Society, and the University of Michigan.
