About

David A. Victor, Ph.D. (University of Michigan, 1984) has over 30 years experience as a consultant, management coach and cross-cultural trainer.  Dr. Victor also is a tenured Full Professor of Management and International Business. Additionally he is the author of five books on international business communication and conflict management.

Dr. Victor has consulted as a management coach and trainer since the mid-1980’s, mostly in the area of international negotiations, international business communication, expatriate relocation, global business strategy, global team management, and inclusion/diversity management for a wide range of clients working domestically in the United States as well as in Canada, Mexico, Middle East, East Asia and Europe.

He has consulted and run programs for over 200 companies and organizations, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to the state governments of Idaho, Iowa and Michigan, the American Bar Association and the US Army as well as several city governments and health systems in the US and abroad. Dr. Victor’s book International Business Communication (HarperCollins, 1992) was among the first book published on the subject in the United States. It was this book that first introduced the LESCANT Model. More recently, Dr. Victor has published a series of books for Georgetown University Press, applying the LESCANT Model to specific countries. These are

  • The 7 Keys to Communicating in Brazil co-authored with Orlando Kelm was published in 2016.  The second book
  • The 7 Keys to Communicating in Japan (with Orlando Kelm and Haru Yamada) was published in 2017. The third book in the series
  • The 7 Keys to Communicating in Mexico is in press and will be published in Fall 2019.

He is also co-author (with Deborah Borisoff of NYU) of Conflict Management: A Communication Skills Approach, which deals with conflict management deriving from gender and cultural differences in communication styles. Finally, Dr. Victor has published over 90 works including the introductory chapter on culture for the American Bar Association Guide to International Negotiations.
