Title: Coordinator of Engagement & Activities

Years at EMU:
2 years

What has helped you succeed in your role here?
My students and colleagues have been behind every success I've experienced here. Their ideas, enthusiasm, support, and challenges make our programs and offerings more relevant and robust, and I couldn't do this work without them.

What excites you most about your current work?
Whether we're developing a new event concept or tweaking a recurring one to keep it fresh, there's always something to noodle on and figure out. Those challenges keep me engaged in the work. I love strategy, research, and assessment.

Favorite Campus Spot
I love an outdoor event on a sunny afternoon near the ponds, especially by the Lake House, where I can spot some koi fish.

What accomplishment at EMU are you most proud of?
We've been able to increase the number of collaborative programs we host each year. During the Winter 2024 semester, almost 80% of events were hosted in partnership with another campus department or student group. It feels good to know who to call for help with specific program ideas or to be able to uplift another area's vision/goal and share it with the campus at an event.

Inspiration
The students! I love hearing about their interests and needs and identifying events and activities that help them feel fulfilled. I am honored that students value our office's work, and hearing things like “Honestly, if you're not hosting the event, it's not worth going to” keeps me striving to maintain and elevate our event standards.

Surprising Fact:
I recently changed my name from Sara to Juniper. I wanted a name that reflects my spirit and energy, something I feel compelled to answer to and live out.

Next Goal:
Professionally, we're working on a new Involvement Incentive Program we're piloting this year. I'd like to build a program to help students navigate getting involved on campus so they find their fit and sense of belonging at EMU.
