Ypsilanti -- On Monday, November 14, Washtenaw County My Brother’s Keeper (WMBK) is holding its Local Action Summit II at the Eastern Michigan University Student Center from 8:30 -11:30 a.m.
Washtenaw County is one of over 200 governing entities nationally to have accepted the White House MBK Community Challenge issued by President Obama in February 2014. My Brother’s Keeper is referenced to six “cradle to career” MBK milestones focused on building a pathway of success for young men of color. A community collaborative institutionally anchored by Washtenaw County, the Washtenaw Intermediate School District, and Eastern Michigan University, WMBK held its first Local Action Summit in October, 2015.
The November 14 Summit will provide an overview of WMBK’s first year of activities, unveil its Young Brother’s/ Youth Leadership initiative, and hold milestone advisory breakout groups. It will also feature a “Washtenaw County Policy and Equity Update” focused upon health, education, youth workforce development, criminal justice, housing, economic equity and opportunity mapping. It will also discuss the national MBK Alliance, a corporate, public and philanthropic partnership that will sustain the Obama initiative.
