YPSILANTI -- After only four years since first being established, Eastern Michigan University's engineering programs are being recognized in the national rankings by U.S. News and World Report. This is the first time Eastern's engineering programs have entered the rankings of the digital media company. EMU engineering programs are ranked at 129 among 239 schools nationwide.

EMU first launched a mechanical engineering program in 2017. That was followed in 2018 with the addition of the electrical and computer engineering program. Both programs are accredited by ABET’s Engineering Accreditation Commission. ABET is a non-governmental agency that accredits programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. Just recently, the University introduced a new civil engineering program.

“This recognition demonstrates our deep commitment to educating and retaining students in STEM careers,” said Mohamad Qatu, dean of the GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology. “It is also a reflection of how students, faculty and staff continue to evolve and respond to industry demand. I consider the ranking very competitive with an opportunity to move it forward in the years to come,” Qatu added.

The GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology provides world-class experiences in engineering, technology, cybersecurity, autonomous vehicles, drone technology, aviation, and other areas of study in high-demand career fields.

In addition to housing competitive engineering and technology programs, the newly renovated GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology provides space for student engineering and technology organizations, student advising centers and collaboration and maker’s spaces, professional business and community outreach offices and expanded faculty offices.
