The Division of Enrollment Management is excited to announce the inaugural recipients of the Excellence in Enrollment Partnership award, recognizing individuals across campus who exemplify the belief that “recruitment and retention is everyone’s job.” With so many outstanding nominations, it was no easy task to select just five honorees. This award celebrates those who go above and beyond to support EMU’s enrollment goals, inspire their colleagues, and serve as true ambassadors for the university. Their contributions are instrumental in shaping the experience of prospective and current students alike. The 2024 award winners include: Jessica "Decky" Alexander, Dr. Nick Smith, Darcy Gifford, Cathy Steiner, and Christine Lancaster (not pictured).
Decky Alexander is a tireless advocate for students and an invaluable partner to the Office of Financial Aid. Her collaborative spirit ensures that EMU’s resources make the biggest impact possible. Whether she’s helping students navigate financial hurdles or engaging with prospective students, Decky’s passion for EMU shines.
Nick Smith, director of EMU Marching Band, helps showcase the incredible talent and spirit of our campus community at numerous admission events. He is always eager to highlight the vibrant opportunities that EMU has to offer and leaves a lasting impression on everyone that he meets.
Darcy Gifford stands out for her incredible understanding of enrollment. She transforms every data point shared with her into actionable strategies, ensuring EMU’s efforts are focused and impactful. The websites and marketing materials her division produces are a positive reflection of EMU’s mission and values, making a powerful impression on prospective students.
Cathy Steiner is one of EMU’s behind-the-scenes heroes, ensuring every event runs smoothly. Cathy and her events team make the impossible look effortless, and their work is critical to the success of Admissions events. Cathy’s dedication to EMU and her love for the university are evident in her commitment to providing every visitor with the best possible experience.
Dr. Christine Lancaster continues to inspire us with the example she set as a faculty member and academic leader. Throughout her time at EMU, Christine was a steadfast partner to Admissions, always available to meet with prospective students, provide updates, and offer her guidance. She will be greatly missed in her retirement.
The Division of Enrollment Management would like to congratulate these incredible individuals for their dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to EMU. Their efforts remind us that enrollment is a shared mission, and together, we can continue to make EMU a welcoming and transformative place for all.
