Eastern Michigan University to celebrate first-generation students with panel event

EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY TO CELEBRATE FIRST-GENERATION STUDENTS

MEDIA ALERT

WHO:

EMU TRiO Upward Bound, EMU TRiO Student Support Services, and the Eagle Engage Corps will celebrate first-generation students around campus on Thursday, November 7th, 2019.

WHAT:

In 2018, 24% of EMU students were seeking to be the first in their family to earn an undergraduate degree. First-generation students are integral to our university and achieve greatness in every corner of our campus.

At 1pm on November 7th, members of the Eagle Engage Corps will host a panel discussion with EMU students, alumni, and staff members in the McKenny Ballroom. Local high school students will attend in addition to current first-gen students. The panel will discuss their own experiences as first-generation students and offer tips for success. All EMU staff, faculty, alumni, and community partners are encouraged to post stories, anecdotes, and picture celebrating first-generation students using the #firstgenEMU.

For more information, please contact the EMU TRiO Upward Bound office at (734)487-0488 or email Rod Wallace at rwallac5@emich.edu
