What: Meemic Insurance Co. & The Meemic Foundation have created an inspiring documentary titled, “The LifeChangers: A Tale of Two Educators.” It follows “a day in the life” of Eastern Michigan University Professor Lolita Cummings and Detroit Public Schools Teacher Michele Pizzo.
The red carpet online premiere will be shown on Facebook Live on Sunday, April 25, from 7-8 p.m. The full event details can be found through the Facebook event page.
Documentary Details: As we have all been reminded in recent months, teaching is one of the most challenging and noble professions in our society. This documentary was completed before the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was felt, and it reminds us of all the responsibilities and expectations placed on teachers.
The documentary follows EMU Professor Lolita Cummings, who created a way to recognize students around the Eastern Michigan campus for their hard work and kind actions through her Acts of Kindness recognition. This was designed to counteract examples of racism that the Ypsilanti campus had experienced.
It also follows Michele Pizzo as she piloted a Home Visit Program with students at Davison Elementary-Middle School in Detroit. Many of these students come from low-income families and some have Bengali language backgrounds, which can create a communication barrier that Michele and her colleagues strive to overcome daily.
In addition to Michele and Lolita, special guests featured in the premiere event will include Kim Bearden from the Ron Clark Academy and the Detroit teacher group InDemand.
The documentary’s trailer can be found on the Meemic Insurance Company’s YouTube page.
Interviews with Michele and Lolita are available upon request. Meemic Foundation professionals can also provide further insights.
