Eastern Michigan University hosts the annual Digital Divas Conference to inspire 200 high school girls in STEM – Oct. 25

WHO: Eastern Michigan University faculty, students, staff, 200 high school girls from Southeast Michigan, and local company representatives. Guest speakers include EMU Provost Rhonda Longworth, Representative Felicia Brabec, 33rd House District, and a keynote address by Andria Sperry, chief executive officer and founder of The Future Innovators Academy.

WHAT: Digital Divas annual high school conference offers high-school girls hands-on learning opportunities to encourage involvement in STEM careers.

WHEN/WHERE:  The event kicks off from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, inside EMU’s Student Center Ballroom, 900 Oakwood St. in Ypsilanti. Various breakout sessions will occur throughout the conference on campus. Morning sessions are from 10-11:30 a.m. and afternoon sessions are from 12:45-2:15 p.m. 

WHY: The conference will provide invaluable insight into STEM careers and opportunities for young women.

BACKGROUND: Digital Divas brings together leading professionals, educators, and industry experts to share their insights, stories, and guidance with participants. Participants will also explore hands-on workshops in construction, interior design, and electrical fields. The 2024 Digital Divas Conference is sponsored by Toyota, Wacker, AAUW- Ann Arbor Branch, ITC, and DTE Foundation.

Breakout sessions with visual components include: 

  • Cosmetic Chemistry with EMU Chemistry (Mark Jefferson 241)
  • Build Your Own Candy Randomizer with Promess (Student Center 300)
  • The Egg Drop Challenge with the National Society of Black Engineers (Student Center 320)
  • Rubber Band Racers with Society of Women Engineers (Student Center 310A)
  • Electrical Engineering 101 with EMU Baja (Student Center 310AB)
  • Esports Technical Production with EMU Esports (Esports Lounge, Rec/IM)
  • Careers in Geoscience with EMU Geology (Mark Jefferson 219)
  • VR and Interior Design with EMU Interior Design (Roosevelt 201, AM ONLY)
  • Building Blocks with Eastern Constructors (Student Center 304)
  • Nitrogen Ice Cream and Holographics with the Society of Physics (Strong Lab TBD)
  • Campus Tour with EMU Admissions (PM ONLY)
