YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University has reached an agreement on a three-year contract with the Eastern Michigan University Federation of Teachers Full-Time Lecturers Union.
The agreement runs from Sept. 1, 2018 until August 31, 2021. The agreement was ratified by the bargaining unit on July 27, 2018. The EMU Board of Regents approved the agreement during a special board meeting Thursday, August 30, 2018.
Rhonda Longworth, provost and executive vice president for academic and student affairs, said, "I want to express my strong appreciation and support for the crucial role our EMU Full-Time Lecturers play in the education, development and campus experience of EMU students. I also want to thank the negotiating teams for the hard work and strong commitment to collaboration that resulted in this agreement.”
The agreement covers approximately 90 full-time lecturers.
Key provisions of the agreement include salary increases of 1.75 percent in 2018-19 plus $200 added to base pay, a 2 percent increase in 2019-20 and a 2.25 percent increase in 2020-21.
The agreement also includes increases in overload rates and summer pay, in minimum base salaries and changes to health care premiums.
The unit does not include faculty members represented by the EMU chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) or part-time lecturers. The part-time lecturers agreed to a three-year contract last summer, and the AAUP’s four-year contract expires at the end of the 2018-19 academic year.
