YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University is offering special training this spring in a continuous improvement process that has proven effective throughout the business world and in health care settings.

Professional Programs and Training (PPAT), part of Engage@EMU, is launching a new online, non-credit course offering with Amesite, Inc., an artificial intelligence software company based in Ann Arbor.

The new pilot course covers Lean Six Sigma for Health Care, a 12-week professional program offering 4.5 Continuing Education Units. Six Sigma is a methodology, a continuous improvement process that's designed to reduce or eliminate error or defects in manufacturing and areas such as health care, where reducing error is critically important.

For example, employing Six Sigma principles in health care settings can help eliminate defects and variations in processes, and it can help make procedures more streamlined, less costly and help improve patient care.

The PPAT program at Eastern offers an array of industry-recognized training, continuing education and certification prep programs to help students and employees of regional businesses and beyond develop their skills and knowledge. The PPAT team offers practical, process-based instruction in multiple industries for professionals

“We constantly seek innovative solutions to offer high quality, non-credit instruction,” said Elizabeth Stoner, Director of Business Engagement and Non-Credit Initiatives at Eastern. “We are pleased to partner with Amesite to launch this pilot offering in health care, one of the fastest growing sectors in the economy.”

Amesite CEO, Dr. Ann Marie Sastry, said, “We are excited to partner with Eastern Michigan University and the PPAT team to offer the Lean Six Sigma for Health Care program, given the need in Michigan to strengthen its numbers in the health care workforce. Statistical methods have a role to play in improving care, and we are pleased to help make an impact with EMU.”

The pilot offering of Lean Six Sigma for Health Care begins April 1, 2019. For more information or to enroll, visit the Engage@EMU website or email ppat@emich.edu.
