YPSILANTI — Felix Meisel, of Saginaw, Mich., is one of 21 students to receive the Presidential Scholarship at Eastern Michigan University for the 2020-2021 academic year.

The Presidential Scholarship is a four-year award that pays for 30 credit hours per year of in-state tuition, housing, a food allowance and mandatory fees.

Felix Meisel has lived in Massachusetts, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Michigan but, most recently, comes from Saginaw, Michigan.

While at Eastern, Felix plans to major in theatre arts, although he is also considering earning a second degree (or a graduate degree) in history.

In total, he has participated in sixteen different theater shows at his school and in the community. He also competed in MIFA's forensics tournaments for three years in a row.

In the future, Felix plans to perform regularly in both professional and amateur theatre and would like to work to combat the elitism found in education of all levels. He is excited to start a new chapter in his life and looks forward to the opportunities that await him.

Presidential Scholars are selected during Eastern Michigan University’s Presidential Scholarship Competition, held in December during a student’s senior year of high school. Awards are highly competitive and based on many factors, including an essay and multiple rounds of interviews. To qualify for the competition, high school seniors must have at least a 3.5 GPA and a minimum of a 25 ACT or 1130 SAT.
