Eastern Michigan University accepting registrations for Dare 2 Design summer camp promoting problem-solving, collaboration and innovation

Hands-on camp geared to young inventors -- will have them identify everyday problems, build models to solve them

YPSILANTI — Eastern Michigan University is now accepting registrations for its Dare 2 Design three-week summer camp beginning Monday, July 12. Open to students in grades 3-9, the Dare 2 Design camp will train participants in developing solutions to everyday problems by using hands-on, project-based activities.

The camp will be hosted at the science rooms of Saline High School, located at 1300 Campus Parkway, in Saline, Monday through Wednesday the weeks of July 12, 19 and 26.

During the camps, Eastern Michigan University professors, and community professionals, inventors, entrepreneurs and scientists with extensive experience and patenting knowledge, will mentor students in small groups to work on their ideas and convert them into prototypes.

Through the group exercises, the students will learn to understand aspects of a problem, collaborate with others, and design solutions for the problems. The camps provide a platform to build  innovation skills, problem-solving, entrepreneurial abilities, critical thinking and collaboration by guiding them as they convert their ideas into solutions. Participating students will also have an opportunity to showcase their prototype at a regional invention competition in March 2022.

Registration for the camp can be found on the Saline Community Education website and must be submitted by Monday, July 5. The cost of the camp is $358. Scholarships to cover the cost of the camp are available on a limited basis. The camp is also free for the first 35 participants from the Saline School District.
