Eastern Michigan University GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology to host TechTalk event featuring Carla Bailo, president of the Center for Automotive Research

YPSILANTI — In an effort to provide an inside look at career opportunities and access to industry professionals, Eastern Michigan University’s GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology will host TechTalk featuring Carla Bailo, president of the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, located at 124 Sill Hall or remotely via Zoom.

EMU TechTalk is a series that launched last fall and offers students and faculty an opportunity to hear from established and up-and-coming leaders in the engineering and technology fields. Additionally, this event, like past TechTalks, also offers a networking environment to explore internships, careers, and research opportunities at the College.

“Tech Talk offers an opportunity for our students and faculty to meet the leaders in technology and become exposed to the latest advancements in various technical fields,” said Mohamad Qatu, dean of GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology. “We are very excited to host Carla Bailo and listen to her presentation on the sustainability of transportation systems,” Dean Qatu added.

Since launching EMU TechTalk, students and faculty have heard from industry leaders, including Paul Ajegba, director of the Michigan Department of Transportation, Paul Perrone, Perrone Robotics' founder, CEO, and autonomous vehicle pioneer, and Reuben Sarkar, president and CEO of American Center for Mobility.

Bailo’s talk will focus on the latest research in sustainability and its importance in mobility and society in general. Related federal and state policies will be briefed in terms of support to reduce our overall carbon footprint as it relates to electrification.  A deep dive into the mobility ecosystem of the future will also be discussed.

According to Qatu, the TechTalk series also presents an opportunity to introduce EMU faculty to these companies and bridge connections towards possible research opportunities. “It's a great benefit for everyone," he added.
