Eastern Michigan University GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology to host Oct. 19 TechTalk event featuring Quentin Messer, chief executive officer of Michigan Economic Development Corporation

YPSILANTI —Eastern Michigan University’s GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology will host yet another informative TechTalk featuring Quentin Messer, chief executive officer of Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct.19, located at 124 Sill Hall or via Zoom.

EMU TechTalk is a series that offers students and faculty exciting opportunities to network with renowned experts and up-and-coming leaders in the engineering and technology fields. Each TechTalk provides extensive networking opportunities and a chance to explore careers, internships and research opportunities at the College. 

“Tech Talk offers an opportunity for our students and faculty to meet the leaders in technology and become exposed to the latest advancements in various technical fields,” said Mohamad Qatu, dean of GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology. “We are happy to welcome Mr. Messer as he brings his knowledge and expertise to our faculty and students at the university,” Qatu added. 

Since launching EMU TechTalk, students and faculty have heard from industry leaders, including Carla Bailo, president of the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, Paul Ajegba, director of the Michigan Department of Transportation, Paul Perrone, Perrone Robotics' founder, CEO, and autonomous vehicle pioneer, and Reuben Sarkar, president and CEO of American Center for Mobility. 

Messer’s talk titled, “How Michigan Will Win for the Next Generation of Eagle Nation,” will focus on how companies around the globe compete for high-tech talent to upskill and prepare their workforce for an increasingly high-tech economy. 

At MEDC, Messer leads a team committed to providing the resources, solutions and opportunities needed to help high-tech talent grow and thrive in the state. About Quentin Messer

As chief executive officer of MEDC and president and chair of the Michigan Strategic Fund, Messer is charged with implementing and executing MEDC’s core mission of business development and attraction, community development, providing access to capital, along with enhancing Michigan’s image and brand with a focus on building a strong and equitable economy for all Michiganders. His responsibilities include managing the administration of all programs, funds, personnel, contracts, and other administrative functions of MEDC. 

Messer is a member of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s cabinet and serves on the boards of the American Center for Mobility, Michigan Israel Business Accelerator, International Economic Development Council and Oklahoma University’s Economic Development Institute.
