YPSILANTI – To help foster a decades-long relationship between college and university leaders from the U.S. and China, the United States Heartland China Association (USHCA) is hosting a U.S.-China Educational Exchange on Aug. 10 and 11 at Eastern Michigan University. Leaders and decision-makers from both countries will explore the next chapter of U.S.-China Educational Exchanges.
USHCA’s annual exchange creates a space for open dialogue regarding the challenges and opportunities of U.S.-China Educational Exchanges. Eastern Michigan University has benefited directly from the exchange, having established a collaboration with Beibu Gulf University (BGU) in South China that allows students to take courses taught by faculty from EMU’s GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology and, upon graduation, receive degrees from both universities.
“It is great to know people have continued deep interest in our work at BGU and want to come to EMU to engage around a major topic of geopolitical significance,” Eastern Michigan University President James Smith. “I hope the EMU and BGU collaboration can serve as a best practice for future educational opportunities where students from both countries can benefit.”
According to the USHCA, U.S.-China Educational Exchanges have greatly benefited both countries in the past four decades. But, growing geopolitical tensions have upended traditional exchange models in many ways. College and university leaders, who have played a fundamentally important role in developing positive relationships between these two nations for decades, are especially aware of the importance of positive communications, productive dialogues, and continued educational exchanges between the world’s two largest economies for their communities, institutions, faculties, and students.
This is an invitation-only event. To inquire about participating, please contact Katherine Newton at katherine.newton@usheartlandchina.org or call 346.622.3829.
