Eastern Michigan University to close for morning classes on Tuesday, Jan. 23, due to hazardous weather conditions

YPSILANTI --  Due to hazardous weather conditions and forecasts of freezing rain during the morning commute, Eastern Michigan University will close for morning classes on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Classes that begin at 12:30 p.m. and later will take place as scheduled. 

Unless exempted as outlined below, the morning weather closure applies as follows: 

(1) all course activities (including class sessions, exams, assignment submissions, etc.) are canceled; 

(2) all employee meetings (even if they were scheduled to occur on Zoom) are canceled; and 

(3) all employees should refrain from conducting regular, compensable work duties in accordance with the Eastern Michigan University Weather Policy and applicable collective bargaining agreements.  

Exemptions

  • The closing does not apply to classes that were already scheduled as 100% online and 100% asynchronous.
  • The closing does not apply to certain designated employees who may be required to work on campus due to the 24/7 nature of some campus operations, such as employees who work in the heating plant, physical plant, food service, public safety, WEMU, and other employees within specific areas of the University. 

Residence halls and apartments will remain open. Campus dining/food service will be available at select locations. Please check the EDining website for up-to-date information.
