Ypsilanti community prepares for Eastern Michigan University’s annual Turkey Trot 5K

YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University’s Rec/IM is encouraging the EMU and nearby community to lace up their running shoes for the annual Turkey Trot 5K. The race will begin at the east entrance of EMU’s Rec/IM and continue around campus on November 14 starting at 4:30 p.m.

The annual Turkey Trot 5K has been an ongoing tradition at Eastern for over 50 years. Attendees can expect to see participants dressed in seasonal costumes. There will be a costume contest, and winners will receive a fun-filled swag bag.

"The EMU Rec/IM Turkey Trot 5K run has been a long-standing tradition, and my hope is to get the community of Eastern, Ypsilanti and maybe even Ann Arbor involved to make it bigger and better," said Brett Carlisle, EMU sports programs and REC/IM special events coordinator. "With 56 years and counting, we want to keep this tradition going while providing people with an amazing experience."

Registration costs $10, which goes towards Swoop’s Pantry, a food pantry for Eastern students. It is valid until the start time of the event. $1 can be taken off registration costs for every non-perishable food item that is donated. Attendees who participated in the Train to Trot program will receive $5 off the registration fee. Everyone is welcome to register, even if they are not students or experienced runners.
