YPSILANTI — Eastern Michigan University is proud to announce Charlotte Clavet, a resident of Brownstown, Michigan as Presidential Scholar for 2024. Clavet is one of 21 exceptional students selected for this honor, awarded to top-performing first-year students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a strong commitment to their communities.
The EMU Presidential Scholarship is the most prestigious award, valued at up to $100K. The scholarship covers full tuition, fees, and four-year room and board. Presidential Scholars are active and engaged members of The Honors College at EMU, complementing their academic college experience with further opportunities for critical thinking, community engagement, and leadership.
"I was ecstatic finding out I received this scholarship, my parents were crying tears of joy hearing about it," said Clavet. "It makes me feel like all the effort I put into my studies and resume-building made a difference and now I can focus entirely on my studies"
Clavet graduated from Oscar A Carlson High School and is pursuing a dual major in English literature and political science, with a minor in creative writing. After college, she wants to attend law school and pursue a career as a family or corporate lawyer. In high school, Clavet participated in many extracurriculars such as the National Honors Society, Marching Band, Drama Club, and Pep Club and was a freshman mentor. Clavet was also captain of her school’s Quiz Bowl team, vice president of the Foreign Language Club, and head of the Robotics marketing team. In addition to this, Clavet volunteered during her free time and is the founder and president of, “Scooter’s Tale” charity, which raises funds and goods to donate to no-kill animal shelters. Clavet is excited to continue participating in other extracurriculars and local activities.
Clavet is currently involved in EMU's Evergreen ACapella and Mock Trial team and is looking forward to joining more extracurriculars at Eastern. "I'm only beginning, but I truly hope to make the most of my college experience here at Eastern," said Clavet.
"We are excited to have such an impressive group of scholars join us at EMU and the Honors College this fall,” said Ann Eisenberg, dean of The Honors College. “They come from different backgrounds, cultures, and countries, but they all share a passion for learning, service, and leadership, and they have all pledged to give back to EMU through their work in the classroom, student organizations, and campus offices.”
The EMU Presidential Scholarship is aligned with the University's commitment to promoting student success and engagement so students can achieve their academic goals while positively impacting the world.
