YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University and Marygrove College, which is closing following this fall semester after 92 years of operation in Detroit, have reached an agreement to help some of the College's displaced students finish their degrees at EMU.

The plan of action, called a teach-out agreement, is available to Marygrove graduate students whose current program aligns with EMU’s. Under the agreement:

• Eastern will accept all the transcripted credits earned by Marygrove students at that institution, and count those credits towards a degree from Eastern, under Higher Learning Commission guidelines.

• Eastern will award a degree to the students participating in the teach-out in approximately the same amount of time that would have been required at Marygrove.

• Eastern will waive the application fee and the maximum transfer credit hours policy that stipulates how many credits that can be transferred.

• Eastern will create a financial aid package for Marygrove students consistent with that of an incoming EMU student.

• Marygrove students will not pay a cost per credit hour at Eastern that is higher than the cost at Marygrove College.

• Eastern will provide Marygrove students with the resources and support services that were available at Marygrove.

• The agreement runs from December 15, 2019 to December 31, 2020.

“As a university dedicated to the education of graduate students, Eastern Michigan welcomes admissible students currently attending Marygrove College to any of the majors available at the university,” said Rhonda Longworth, provost and executive vice president of academic and student affairs at EMU.
