Eastern Michigan University names Katie Condon vice president for enrollment management

YPSILANTI – Following a national search, Eastern Michigan University has named Katie Condon vice president for enrollment management. The appointment is effective May 30, 2023, pending approval by the University’s Board of Regents.

Condon joins Eastern from West Virginia University, where she serves as Director of Enrollment Management, providing day-to-day supervision and management of the Office of Recruitment. Among her accomplishments:

  • Increased applications of ethnically underrepresented students by 35%;
  • Grew international first-year student applications by 220% following the pandemic;
  • Managed the orientation and onboarding of 5,000 first-year and transfer students annually, including online modules, communication planning, day-of programming, block scheduling, advising, housing and other activities;
  • Redesigned scholarship strategies to support test-optional policies and international recruitment goals;
  • In collaboration with institutional research, led the development of data dashboards around enrollment, student success and retention; and,
  • Collaborated with institutional stakeholders including deans, faculty, academic advising, and communications offices about admissions and orientation initiatives.

Condon joined the West Virginia University admissions office in 2014, where she also served as instructor for seven years in courses including public speaking, public communication and organizational communication. She is currently pursuing a doctor of philosophy, and earned a Master of Arts in Communication Theory and Research from West Virginia University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications Studies from Albion College.

Condon replaces Kevin Kucera, who, after serving the University since 2011, announced his upcoming retirement.

The Search Committee was chaired by University Vice President for Communications Walter Kraft and included: James Carroll, associate provost and associate vice president for administration; Darcy Gifford, assistant vice president for marketing and communications; Suzanne Gray, professor, University Library and Women’s and Gender Studies; Donna Holubik, director of financial aid; Alex Landen, director of admissions; Calvin McFarland, assistant vice president of academic services; Mohamad Qatu, dean, GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology; and, Kevin Williams, director, diversity, equity and inclusion programming.

Condon’s annual salary will be $235,000.
