YPSILANTI- EduMed has ranked Eastern Michigan University’s online registered nursing program to Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) program as No. 1 in Michigan and No. 37 overall BSN program for the 2023 to 2024 school year.

“We're extremely honored for our RN to BSN program to be recognized as the best in Michigan and one of the top programs in the nation. It speaks volumes to the accomplishments of our students and the dedication of our faculty and staff who truly embody our school of nursing mission to deliver high-quality education in an inclusive environment,” said Jennifer Avery, interim director of the school of nursing.

EMU met the integrated postsecondary education data system criteria and earned its spot by assigned weighting. The metrics used to determine the ranking are the number of online programs, percentage of students taking those online courses, average in-state tuition, percentage of students granted institutional grant aid, academic counseling, career placement services, and the student-to-faculty ratio.

Continuing the expansion and resources for the nursing program, last year, Vicki Washington was named the associate director for online nursing students to provide direct oversight of the program. Washington has offered great efforts in program outreach and process improvements to provide better experiences for online nursing students.

“We look forward to continuing to grow and provide meaningful, personalized education for our nursing colleagues,” said Avery.

The university’s BSN program started in 1973 and has had continuous professional accreditation since 1978. The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. It provides a role in shaping its mission and goals, interests the community, collects data for evaluation and improvement and provides a learning environment that fosters student success.

EMU’s School of Nursing offers undergraduate, master's, doctoral, and graduate certificate programs. With both on-campus and online courses offered, EMU can fit career-centered schedules and prepare students to be compassionate and diligent. The university also provides a second degree in nursing to become a registered nurse in five semesters.

Additionally, a family nurse practitioner program is in development per requests from alumni and future applicants, and an expansion of the current online RN-BSN program will be seen in the future to help current students transition to graduate education to progress their careers with EMU.

“The news that EMU's School of Nursing RN to BSN program is ranked number one in Michigan and one of the top BSN programs in the nation is very exciting to hear and quite an honor,” said Washington. “I believe this recognition demonstrates the commitment of the faculty and staff to listen to our students' needs and concerns and go all out to provide the best education possible by meeting the students where they are.”
