YPSILANTI — Eastern Michigan University Theatre will present the stage play "A Wrinkle in Time" starting Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, at 7 p.m., with additional performances on Dec. 2-3, 2023, at 2 p.m. The venue for this production is the Legacy Theater, located in the Judy Sturgis Hill Building at 1030 East Circle Drive in Ypsilanti.

Adapted by Tracy Young from Madeleine L’Engle's Newbery medal-winning novel, the performance follows Meg Murry as she joins forces with Mrs. Whatsit, Charles Wallace, Calvin O'Keefe, and others to battle evil, rescue her father, save humanity, and discover herself. The play explores themes of self-discovery, responsibility, and the power of love.

"Originally a devised work with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, this highly creative adaptation breathes new life into the 1962 novel," said Pam Cardell, assistant managing director for EMU’s School of Communication, Media, and Theatre Arts. "Director Jennifer Felts brings ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ to modern audiences by reimagining the story in a contemporary setting, while the fast-paced sci-fi adventure is supported by innovative technical elements, including projections, lights, a rotating platform, and original music, showcasing a talented ensemble of EMU undergraduate and graduate students."

The EMU preview performance is scheduled on Thursday, Nov. 30, and will feature a talkback with the company, providing an opportunity for EMU students, staff, and faculty to share their input after the show. Additionally, there will be a sneak peek of the final dress rehearsal before the official opening on Friday, Dec. 1.

On Sunday, Dec. 3, the performance will be American Sign Language interpreted, with fidgets, headphones, sunglasses, and large print programs available at the Access Services desk.

The play is produced by special arrangement with Crosswicks, Ltd. and Stage Partners, "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L’Engle.

Tickets can be purchased online at emich.ludus.com, at (734) 487-2282, or in person at the EMU Ticket Office in the Judy Sturgis Hill building. Box Office hours are Monday-Friday from 1-5 p.m. and 90 minutes before showtime. Parking on EMU’s campus is available through LAZ Parking for a fee.
